i made these as one of several attempts to try to recreate the glitchy percussion used by phonem, gimmik, proem, arovane, and others, from a specific style of IDM mostly made in the late 90s and early 2000s. the samples are made with chaotic modulation of both a sine wave and a downsampler on it, among other effects.

the first set i've already used in some unfinished music of mine, two of which i know contain them are available to download. a snippet of file three is available to download as a preview of what it's like before good bits of it are cut out and exported.

samples are royalty free but redistribution is prohibited, full license file is included in the download.

Update (Sep 12 2023):

added 256 more samples from a third file. the first file probably contains more decent sounds that i skipped initially, so in the future i might pull more out of it to include. i've exported a fourth file but i have to take a break from cutting up the samples, so eventually i'll include more samples from that as well.

Update (Jul 3 2024):

added 553 samples generated with a different process, starting with AU5's ultracomb rather than aliasing sines. the sounds are in a separate zip file because it is a different source. the price has been increased rather than making a separate page which also costs $5.
